Marion Avenue Baptist Church has a Spanish ministry that reaches out to the Spanish communities in the area. Washington, Iowa and its surrounding areas average about 2-4% Hispanics. Within 45 minutes driving distance to the church there are at least 7,000 Spanish people that need the Gospel or need to attend a local Baptist church and grow in grace. We have Spanish people from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and even a few from Puerto Rico. The Spanish population is slowly growing and we are now seeing the mission field come to us.
Iglesia Bautista Marion Avenue has a full Spanish church program. We have Sunday school and two services on Sunday and a midweek service on Thursday night. We have many activities and there is also an organized Saturday soul winning time where at least a dozen men and women or more have breakfast and go out to knock on doors and try to win people to Christ. The services are in Spanish and we have seen hundreds receive Christ as their Savior. Most converts hear the Gospel in their own Spanish language. There are many Spanish people that speak little English or no English at all that are attending services and receive Bible teaching and preaching in their native tongue. The Spanish church is now running on average 130 people on Sunday and over 50 people on Thursday nights. We have one bus route running in the city of Columbus Junction bringing in an average of 25 riders and we pray that one day God will allow us to start more routes to be able to reach more people!
Iglesia Bautista Marion Avenue is run by assistant pastor Hector Rodriguez. Pastor Rodriguez and his family would like to invite you to come and visit our Spanish work at any of our services and encourage you to let us know of any Spanish speaking friends you may have in this area!
